Sam Fogarino: Geek Love - Katherine Dunn

About a carny family of freaks; true freaks, far deeper than odd appearances.

Told by a voice and imagination that is dark, brilliant, and beyond original.

2. The Demon - Hubert Selby Jr.

A story about a man, Harry White, in pursuit of more than what life has offered. Influenced by lust, and getting away with what is socially taboo... Shit spins way out of control.....

3. Chronic City - Jonathan Lethem

"The turbocharged plot of Chronic City is too intricate and seamless, and also too odd, to summarize easily. It involves migraines and hiccups and a luxury residence for dogs, and Perkuss quest for unattainable vaselike objects, called chaldrons, that hold an almost mystical appeal. Stripped to essentials, though, the story centers on the friendship between Chase and Perkus, and on their travels through Manhattans social strata: a party at the billionaire mayors mansion, a film project at a highbrow production company, all those hours at Jackson Hole." - New York Times

DARKSIDE

1. The Blind Owl" - Sadegh Hedayat

2. Visions of Excess" - Georges Bataille

3. The Old Man and The Sea

BALANCE & COMPOSURE

Bailey Van Ellis

David Foster Wallace - Girl With Curious Hair

Milan Kundera - The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Arthur C. Clarke - 2001: A Space Odyssey

THE BLOOD BROTHERS

Jordan

1. The Complete Stories, Flannery OConnor

My all-time favorite author. I recommend starting with "A Good Man is Hard to Find." Itll give you a great primer on the major themes that unify her work: faith, false piety and violence as the necessary means of transformation.

2. The Painted Bird, Jerzy Kosinski

Its a little hard to recommend because its so brutal, but The Painted Bird was hugely influential on me. Following a young boy as he travels the eastern European countryside, its a Holocaust story that plays out like a surreal, nightmarish fable. Some of the most hauntingly intense imagery Ive ever read.

3. Tenth of December, George Saunders

This is the last book I read that completely floored me. I love short stories, and Saunders collection is fresh, highly imaginative and moving.

Jacco Gardner

1. Lo Cunto De Li Cunti by Giambattista Basile - 17th century collection of Italian fairytales. Some of these were turned into child-friendly versions and made famous by Disney, but many of them were too horrific for modern-day children.

2. White Bicycles by Joe Boyd - A great memoir of Joe Boyds experiences in the music industry as tour manager, producer throughout the 1960s and 70s. He was there at very important moments surrounding artists like Muddy Waters, Nick Drake, Syd Barrett/Pink Floyd, Vashti Bunyan, Incredible String Band and more.

3. Kruistoch In Spijkerbroek (Crusade in Jeans) by Thea Beckman - Dutch childrens novel from 1973 about a 14-year old kid who travels through time to the 13th century and ends up in the childrens crusade of 1212. His modern-day know-how saves many children from horrific deaths. This might very well have been an inspiration to Back To The Future!

RYAN HEMSWORTH

Atlanta: Hip-Hop and the South by Michael Schmelling, Kelefa Sanneh & Will Welch

This perspective on Atlanta and its amazing music is so rare; accurately covers both the underdogs and the big dogs.

The Elements of Style Illustrated by Maira Kalman

I had to use the Elements of Style guides in university, finding Kalmans take on it was so refreshing. She turned something so painfully boring into a hilarious, fun experience. Super creative.

Outlet by Randy Taguchi

Really strange book incorporating elements of technology, sex, surrealism, and Japan. It filled me with lots of crazy, stupid, inspired ideas.

LA DISPUTE

Bradley Vander Lugt

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami

The Road by Cormac McCarthy

Silence by John Cage

CHET FAKER

1. Robert M Pirsig - Zen & The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance

(This books like a good Album. I keep re-reading it at different times of my life and find some newfound relevance)

2. A.B.Facey - A Fortunate Life (if youre looking for a little gratitude..)

3. Kenneth Cook - Wake In Fright

FLYING LOTUS

1.astral dynamics /robert bruce

2.miles / miles davis

3. survivor / chuck palahniuk

BENJAMIN BOOKER

1. The Fire Next Time By James Baldwin

Mr. Baldwin is my favorite author and a personal hero of mine. The book discusses his youth in Harlem and race in America. In typical JB fashion, he didn sugarcoat anything.

2. Cliffords Blues By John A. William.

A book about a black, gay, jazz musician who spends over a decade in work camps and concentration camps. Its safe to say this is unlike anything youll ever read.

3. Just Kids By Patti Smith

This is the perfect book for any struggling artist trying to make it. A love story so beautiful I dare you not to get worked up reading it.

JAMIE XX

The Uncorrected Billy Chyldish - Selected Poems

Charles Bukowski - Tales of Ordinary Madness

Gil Scott Heron - The Last Holiday

DANIEL AVERY

Haruki Murakami - South Of The Border, West Of The Sun

Jonathan Franzen - Freedom

Arthur Miller - Death Of A Salesman

SLINT

Britt Walford:

1. The Dimensions of Paradise: Sacred Geometry, Ancient Science, and the Heavenly Order on Earth by John Michell

-This will blow your mind.

2. Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth by Reza Aslan

Talks about the historical Jesus, who I was recently surprised to find out is now recognized as such by scholars. I cant help but enjoy Jesus being described as a "magician." Makes Jesus and Paul the Apostle seem simultaneously both more and less impressive.

3. The Serpent in the Sky: The High Wisdom Of Ancient Egypt by John Anthony West

-This will blow your mind as well.

David Pajo:

1. 2014 Harley-Davidson Service Manual - Dyna Models - 99481-14A

- This one is my bible.

2. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M. Persig

I read this in high school and liked it. Im re-reading it now as the motorcycle stuff resonates more. But the other stuff I used to love doesnt seem to hold up as much.

THE BRONX

Jorma:

1. David Sedaris - "Me Talk Pretty One Day". If youve never read one of his books this is a good place to start. Absolutely hilarious.

2. Nick Cave - "The Death Of Bunny Monro". The imagery he paints into his fiction is as powerful as the imagery in his music.

3. Luigi Seraphini - Codex Seraphinianus

This book was written in indecipherable gibberish that the author claims was communicated to him through telepathic conversations with his cat - so you know its gotta be good.

Nick:

1. Just kids" by Patti Smith

The inspiring and heartbreaking story of Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe provides a poetic and grimy look into New Yorks historical music and art scene of the late 60s and 70s. This is a beautiful book and a must read for anybody that still has a pulse.

RUN THE JEWELS

EL-P

Philip k dick "clans of the alphane moon"

William t. vollman "you bright and risen angels"

Flanders OConnor "everything that rises must converge"

DJ HARVEY

1. War Against War

Ernst Friedrich

1924 WW1 Anti war attrocity photographs with satirical comments, heads on sticks, lakes of blood. Some things never change.

2. Barrows Boys

Fergus Flemming

A stirring story of daring fortitude and outright lunacy from 1998.

3. Child Of God

Cormac Mccarthy

Guy has dead girlfriend and hours of fun, with dead girlfriend.

4. Pete Gomrich

Little History Of The World

Childrens book for grown ups, tells the story of the rise and fall of Empires

5. Things Hidden Since the Foundation of the World by Rene Girard: The most powerful grand theory of the 20th century

3. The Secret Life of Salvador Dali by Salvador Dali: It starts like this At the age of six I wanted to be a cook. At seven I wanted to be Napoleon. If you have purchased your wristband online and have not received it yet, please call FrontGate directly to sort the status of your delivery - 888-512-SHOW. If you purchased in-store at a record store, your wristband is now available for pick up.

2. Although we do not recommend using Stubhub or Craigslist, please be weary of the wristband that you are purchasing from a third-party. We recommend only purchasing from people you trust - friends & family. There are no paper tickets or E-tickets available for FYF this year.

3. Please DO NOT not put on your wristband until the festival. It will not come off. If you have already put it on, you can take it to the box office the day of the show with your ID (hopefully you were the purchaser of your wristband) and replace it for $20.

4. We advise that all festival attendees activate their wristband(s) here:http://bit.ly/FYFactivate. It is not required for entry, but is recommended that you do so in advance (in case anything happens to it).

5. We will be releasing the set times and FYF app early next week. Check our social media andfyffest.comfor more details.

If there are any additional questions, feel free to email us atinfo@fyffest.com.

From fyffest.com
Sat, 16 Aug 2014 06:10:00 -0700http://fyffest.com/news/221913EXTENDED METRO RAIL HOURS

Beat the traffic and Go Metro: Attendees are strongly encouraged to ride Expo Line trains, as Metro will run enhanced service on both days. Be sure to exit at EXPO/VERMONT for the closest station to the entrance. Trains take just 15 minutes to get here from Culver City or Downtown LA, where you can transfer to other Metro Rail lines. Skip post-FYF lines at the fare machines by loading round trip fare or a Day Pass in advance and remember to TAP your card on validators before each boarding, even when transferring to other lines. Each person must have a TAP card as they cannot be shared. Free parking is available at many stations but parking at Culver City and La Cienega/Jefferson fills up early. Plan ahead atmetro.netor use Google Transit.

From fyffest.com
Wed, 13 Aug 2014 16:42:00 -0700http://fyffest.com/news/221713ON-SITE LOCKERS

On-site lockers are now available to reserve in advance for FYF Fest.
Dont wait and ensure yourself a place to keep your valuables in HERE.

From fyffest.com
Tue, 05 Aug 2014 12:57:00 -0700http://fyffest.com/news/220673BIKE PARKING

Ride your bike to FYF Fest!
